For years I had been vaguely aware of the existence of this film, but wrote it off as being a product of it’s time such as “Cheaper by the Dozen”, which by todays standard is SO DATED. Boy, was I sinister. Papa’s Dazzling Condition was laughable, witty, and refreshing. Jackie Gleason’s sly sarcasm is as hilarious as it is timeless. For those of you who only know Jackie Gleason from “The Honeymooners”, you will be gratified to leer Gleason’s artistry go arrangement beyond his character as Ralph Cramden. Though the movie is filled with astronomical character actors, Gleason definitely carries the relate.
I found the relationship between the father and his youngest daughter to be particularly endearing. In one scene, he tells the older sister and the mother to discontinuance ganging up on the limited girl. It is at moments like that which cause the relate to rupture away from the mold and stereotypes of it’s era.
This is a mammoth family record. The storyline is simple enough for children to follow along, while the adults will indulge in the spacious writing, fast comebacks, and saltiness of the dialogue.
I agree with the previous reviewer that said that the narrative was a limited mature. It is for this reason that I am not giving the movie 5 stars. Do not confuse a used storyline, however, with grand dialogue and acting. Not only is it piquant, the color and cinematography compose this a visual stunner.
I am surprised that this movie has not made the crossover from VHS to DVD when so many less satisfying movies have. Perhaps, like myself, they judged the movie by it’s hide..and are only now unprejudiced discovering what a gem it really is.
When Jackie Gleason passed some years ago I remember a couple of tidbits from his obituary. One relates a doctor telling him that he had lung cancer and suggesting that he crop benefit on his smoking. Heeding his doctor’s advice Gleason sever benefit from six packs a day to four packs. Gleason had his contain shrimp Algonquin Round Circle that consisted of Salvador Dali and Mickey Mantle among others. What did these seeming unlike public figures have in approved? A cherish of the bottle. Gleason made something of a effect in films after his “Honeymooners” heyday. He was absolutely mesmerizing as Minnesota Fats in “The Hustler”. I’m calm waiting for a DVD release of “Soldier in the Rain” with Steve McQueen. “Papa’s Exquisite Condition” is an enchanting film in that it was probably promoted as a comedy but dig a limited deeper it’s a sober recognize at the scourge of alcoholism. Gleason’s Jack Griffiths is one of those larger-than-life gregarious personalities whose impulsive behaviour, usually when soused, that wins over some people particularly his impressionable six year used daughter. Not so his wife and older daughter. Why I don’t rate this film five stars is it’s not written explicitly that Griffiths is a self-destructive personality. Gleason, probably through personal experience, reads between the lines like he implicitly knows Jack Griffiths. This is not a slurring, stumbling, stereotypical drunk. Griffiths on the surface appears rather sober but underneath is destroying himself with liquor. This is an average film raised to the next level by a sizable performance. DSi460 In-wall speakers Great speakers, easy to install. Only thing I would say is that if you are going to paint the grilles to match your walls etc., be very careful not to use too much paint. I used the same latex paint I had used on my walls, thinned out a bit and even that was too much, as it clogged the speaker grilles holes. I had to completely redo, and went with a krylon spray can which worked excellent. Speakers sound as good as the free standing paradigms they replaced. Good product

All I have to say is wow I am very impressed with this subwoofer, at first I was a bit worried due to its small size. But it performs surprizingly well, and hits pretty hard too. I have it installed in a 1997 ford ranger, single cab on the back wall. There is even still plenty of room to put the seat all the way back. The install went extreamly well, I also purchased a Boss 2 farad capacitor to go with it. I am using Rockford speakers and a R-150 Rockford amp in the doors for 120Hz and up, and I have the sub set for 120Hz and down. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for bass in a small area.
Excellent solution for those with little space Just had my local sound shop install the Boss Bass1500 behind the passenger seat of my ‘99 Miata. They’d put in an Alpine deck and amp powering Boston Acoustics separates, 6.5″ mid-bass and 1″ soft-dome tweeter, which sounded terrific but lacked low-end grunt. The Boss unit was the perfect solution — didn’t take up very much room in what is a tiny car, and while it won’t rattle your fillings the bass fill is just what I was searching for. Two caveats: Reviews for the previous model, the Bass1200, show that quite a few go bad. That is likely attributable to a) incorrect or improper installation — most likely a power source other than straight from the battery or poor grounding — and/or b) people pushing the unit too far, so that the amp clips and dies. Run juice straight from the battery and don’t push the output so hard, and this heavy, solid-feeling unit should last quite some time. Better yet, if you want even more bass and have room under your seats but don’t want a big sub box in your cabin (SUVs) or trunk, buy two, one under each seat, and you’ll be slammin’! All in all, an excellent solution to what I needed.
WTF PRICE JUMPS $40!! WTF. Why do does the price of everything my my checkup list always jump %20 in price in one week!!! A product that has been released for years doesn’t just become more valuable!!! This was $125 around the 15th of March 2010, now it is selling for of 160!!! I won’t buy it now, was waiting till I had my spending money higher but I guess I will take it somewhere else now. Yea I know the price of things fluctuate but that doesn’t mean you can just boost the price this much when you want to. All the BASS powered subs boosted in price too, I can’t just get the cheaper one now, as that is more expensive now than this one was last week. An example why monopolies are bad, try it. try and find this product somewhere else.

Excellent sub for the price! This little unit rocks. It is low profile, looks great, and fits into a narrow space. Don’t plan on stacking components on top of it even though you may be tempted, as the rumbling of the bass can disrupt other components. You can also place this vertically. Like the other reviewer, it is perfect with the ysp-4000 as the sync cable turns it off and on with the main speaker. I think other yamaha components may have this also.

A wintry woman who likes funerals and is turned on only by humdrum bodies enters into a sexless marriage with CAROL BURNETT Expose bud Lyle Waggoner and secretly joins a cult of necrophiliacs in a local morgue. For a film that had so noteworthy perverse and ghoulish potential, this film only partially entertains. There’s a particularly horrid scene early in the film of a guy being embalmed alive but the film gets bogged down in the drama of marital problems in the second hour. While the serious near to such cross material is greatly appreciated, a slight more ghoulish apprehension would’ve been nice.
For years, I had hoped that some titanic DVD company like Anchor Bay or Blue Underground would acquire it in their hearts to re-distribute this film. I did fetch my wish & Code Red has done a valid job. Although the DVD quality wasn’t as suitable as I had hoped for, quality is minute potatoes as far I’m concerned which can be easily forgiven or perhaps even overlooked when we believe how long this film has been out of circulation. Also, the film is released here in it’s modern uncut format which is worth the nominal investment you will execute.
When I mediate of expansive alarm films in the unhurried ’60’s or early ’70’s, LMD always comes to mind. Infact, I’m baffled as to why this one hasn’t a stronger following or why more people didn’t latch on to this one but perhaps the DVD release will grant curiousity seekers yet another chance to thought this extraordinary film. Fingers crossed.
Yes, that is Lyle Waggoner & you may very well remember him from The Carol Burnette Demonstrate or Wonder Woman. I can’t say that I win ever seeing anything else after this with Lyle but I deem he did a terrific job here. Mary Charlotte Wilcox also gives a rather complex performance here as a necrophiliac who could never quite gather over the loss of her beloved father.
What makes LMD so disturbing or even a tad bit testy is the almost creepy atmosphere which, at times, is downplayed or brushed to the side with the romantic interludes. The viewer wouldn’t want to to become too comfortable in those sweet or pleased moments, however, as the film can unexcited conjure up some horrific images such as a live young man being embablmed. Assign a few rather ghoulish or ghastly montages, LMD could’ve easily been construed as a slightly off-kilter worship narrative with a Hitchcockian twist.
LMD revolves around the life of a confused blooming young woman (played by Wilcox) who seems to have an infinity with the recently deceased young men in her place. She often pick up herself attending their funerals even though she’s has never known them nor any of their families or friends. In fact, we come by her scoping the obituaries in the early fragment of the film for young men in their thirties. But wait, the morbidity continues when she finds that the owners of a local funeral home are also necrophiliacs & some of them may even be alive to in execute.
The second half of the film deals with the romance between Wilcox & Waggoner. Obviously, she loves the man enough to marry him but finds it extremely difficult to consummate with her spouse. We eventually score out why she loves him & how her father passed away but unfortunately our lead is well past the point of no return. Sadly, this unnatural obsession with the modern deceased could show to become fatal for all eager.
Great film. Most likely, viewers who are expecting low gore or high adult negate will be disappointed. Fans of psychological thrillers with a perverse edge may score this more exciting however. Savor can be the most deadly force in the universe & not all forms of appreciate are understandable nor celebrated. Having said that, LMD is one of the best film I’ve purchased on DVD in some time. If you were around to explore the novel Magnum TV series, you already know whats in this. I watched the unusual series during my high school years and sitting down and watching the series again reminds me not only of those times, but of how kindly the expose was.
If you never watched the modern present, let me unbiased say that introducing yourself to Magnum and his pals would be well worth your time. This is the ultimate “buddy” expose. The dynamic that evolves between the main characters is a rare pleasure to peer. Some of the episodes (The two parter called “Ivan” jumps to mind… but that will have to wait for later season releases) are particularly well done and have some extraordinary moments.
Of course, there are going to be some stinkers mixed in there. But to be unbiased, they are particularly few and far between.
One of the best elements of the indicate is the relationship between Magnum and Higgins. Its the classic love/hate deal with a level of mutual respect that sustains a very comic serve and forth of gotchas between the two.
Once all the seasons have been released, and you leer that final episode with Magnum walking off into the sunset in his dress whites on the beach with his daughter in hand, you mill most likely wonder three things. First, when will they manufacture a movie so we can all observe what happens next. Second, did Rick or didn’t he? Finally, you will be objective a bit jealous that we can’t all have the kind of friendships that Magnum, TC, Rick and Higgins allotment.
Of course, there is the technical side of the DVD. Frankly, I was not too optimistic about the likely quality of the video. I am elated to recount that the transfer to DVD is honest about as elegant as anyone could possibly hope for. I am watching the DVD on a 50″ rear projection LCD TV. So any quality problems with the image would be particularly clear. Also, my DVD player is an older Toshiba model. No progressive scan or any of the other celebrated quality boost features you collect in newer decks. The bottom line is that there is no reason to be concerned in any arrangement about the quality of the transfer, it’s top notch.
So steal the time to introduce yourself to Magnum and his friends, you won’t regret it.
